There’s a part in Frank Zappa’s concert film “Baby Snakes” where he addresses his dismay at Perter Frampton and his recent image change with the song “I’m In You”
In all fairness, Frampton kinda got tricked into taking a sexy pic at the end of a photo shoot and the next thing you know, it’s his next album cover
But the lead in to the Zappa rant started with “Some of you already have those cute little T-shirts on that say DISCO SUCKS. That’s not all that sucks…”
The way it came across to me is that Zappa wasn’t just addressing Disco the music but Disco the industry
Disco the music was usually played by very accomplished session musicians including real live orchestral musicians

I bought this 18″ Zildjian “Z” Power Smash back in 2000 and have used it primarily for an in-between china/trashy crash-ride application
I played it bell up and it yeilded a ton of different textures
Lately, I have used it for Mass Torment because my other chinas were just too trashy
However, I just cracked it and am bummed
You served me well Z Power Smash and you lived a long productive life (especially for one of my cymbals)

I’m sitting there doing something unproductive like rotting on the internet when an idea pops into my head
It does laps around my brain, gains momentum and finally convinces me to get off my ass and do something with it
But I know from experience that I had better get it done quick because, with the idea, comes all of the creativity killing anxieties that slow me down and eventually make me wanna give up and go back to rotting on the internet again
Video ideas are a lot easier
Searching through the hard drive isn’t so bad because I bothered to catalogue everything when I digitized it
If it is on VHS or DVD, then I have to wait through the ripping process to get my clip

I just played the drums and here’s what was different
-I didn’t have to set up
-I didn’t have to break down
-I played at 3 am on REAL DRUMS *REAL LOUD!*
-I took a shower directly afterwards and didn’t have to drive home to do it
Having recently been urged to re-consider metal, I decided to play some tonight
The evening started when I discovered that the new season of “That Metal Show” was currently running, so I watched the first episode and got excited
I started stretching as I watched it and then did some light martial arts (100 front and side kicks 100 punches and blocks as well as 50 stretch kicks)
This got my heart rate up and also helped me to stretch a bit easier because the muscles were warmer
After the show was over, I warmed up a bit with my usual single stroke rolls on both hand...
Two things today to cross off the final check list
Both concerning the vehicle
The oil change was important but the extremely important issue was getting the electrical hookup connected for the trailer
I had pulled the interior paneling off both rear quarter panels in order to find the brake light and turn signal plug for the trailer
The video said it would be in a certain spot but I couldn’t find it for the life of me
I took it to Laura’s brother John’s garage and told him where I thought it was
He poked around for a second and then pointed to a blue cube and said “here it is”
The plug had been in the open but didn’t recognise it because it was encased in tape

Literally 20 minutes ago, I got up and went down to the basement to get my bass
I was watching a movie and wanted to aimlessly plunk on it
But when I got to the basement, there was no bass
Not only that but I couldn’t find the harp guitar
I searched every room possible in the house
You know that old cliche’ “He suddenly realized in horror”?
I suddenly realized in horror that I had left them both at the last gig I played
At the 400 bar EIGHT days ago
That’s when I freaked out
And to make matters worse
The gig at the 400 didn’t exactly go off on good terms and there were negative things said in public by various participants of the lineup

Went to KFAI with Oni and Alison to be on DJ SLT’s show “Across the Board”
Had a lot of fun
Made a fool out of myself

The mic is broken on that camera and I had the digital up on the stairs where the sound and view are great
Then I left the footage for a while because I figured it would be good for a compilation/promo type situation
The main camera caught a decent audio track so I fiddled and EQ’ed it and re-applied it to the main vid cam shot
Just for the hell of it, I tried applying the audio to the 2nd camera to see how long it would synch before the video changed
What I didn’t know was that Ether had let the camera roll for the entire time
This meant that the new improved audio track synched up perfectly!
What I ended up with was a very good set of performances

Should I find that troubling?
I assumed that there were tons of people like me but our thick outer shells made it hard to discern who was who
I am fighting the urge to let this statement re-enforce my egocentric view of the world
In an attempt to cushion the blow of alienation, I (like many alienated people) have been telling myself that my unique view of the world is what causes me to percieve reality so differently from so many
I need to vigilant so that I don’t allow myself to use it as an excuse to hold up in the apt. and not work
Herin lies my other conundrum
The constant tugging of the opposite forces of ego/confidence v.s. anxiety/self loathing causes me to question every decision I make
